You will laugh out loud as Dev Haskell, P.I. is thwarted in the most hilarious of ways as he tries to score. The lengths he will go protect the damsel who doesn't know she is in distress will make you appreciate his tenacity. Morton, the golden retriever is back...and in fine form and the villian in this newest Mike Faricy book is the master con man. Women, never fear! Dev is on the way!

A Very Fun Read

Another Mike Faricy winner. I have read and enjoyed all of the Dev Haskill romps and I was especially pleased to see his buddy Morton is back. Anyone who has owned a big, happy dog can't help laughing out loud. I also love Louie. I don't know what Mike thinks he looks like, but I picture Danny deVito.

Dev and Heidi

I've read a lot of Dev Haskell tales and have always found them entertaining. Dev is always the same, always interested in new women (who seem to get him into trouble most of the time), and every story has pretty much the same characters and a lot of drinking. He is always finding himself being accused of murder but always finding a way to get out of trouble.

Mike Faricy's Dev seems to me to be the male's favorite, much like Janet Evanovitch's Stephanie can be preferred by women. Both have sort of a standard script but different adventures. Both have a lot of humor.

In this story Dev's "friend with benefits" Heidi is smitten with a man who Dev finds out is a scam artist. She is so smitten that he can't easily convince her of his three ex-wives, that he is in debt, that he is not an ex-Seal. His task is to accumulate enough evidence that she does not decide to marry this guy.

The information is good, it comes from unquestionably monster players

I don't think this format conveys the information as effectively as a text book style format would.

And the biggest complaint with the kindle version I purchased is that whenever there are musical examples the text refers to the workbook, but the workbook is not included, so there is a big disconnect there. There are some musical examples, but it appears there are more detailed ones in the workbook. I guess? And also, no audio examples.

The information is good, it comes from unquestionably monster players, but the format is an interview style, not a straight music text style which is not the best presentation for conveying this kind of information.

Poor Audio recording, mixing and quality

There is SOME decent information here, but id you are going to sell an AUDIO recording, PLEASE record it profesionally. And don't mix music in at the end when the subject is still talking and have the music drown out what the subject is saying.
The recording quality is horrendous! This is very difficult to listen to and when Sheppard starts playig sax, it blows out my eardrums because the interview portion is so low.
It's really too bad because this isn't a bad idea, but the execution was very poor. The interviewer needs some experience interviewing, and needs to hire an editor, a recordist and a mixer. This effort is mediocre at best.

Es una obra imprescindible para todo el mundo en donde aprenderemos, desde una perspectiva consciente y muy bien construida, una forma de alimentación sana y sustentadora de la vida y las actividades diarias. Sin embargo quedaron algunas cosas por topar. No es de extrañarse ya que el conocimiento está en continuo hacerse y deshacerse. Hecho en falta un índice analítico para facilitar la consulta.

Our heroes travel into memories, find memories buried in those memories, then learn that most of them are manipulative illusions. Nothing in the Amulet universe is ever what it seems. Those who have read the entire series will enjoy these complexities, but those unfamiliar with the previous installments should catch up before picking up this volume. Wonderful continuation of this fantastic middle grade fantasy adventure graphic novel series.

This is the seventh book in the Amulet series and it feels like it has been taking absolutely forever for these to release. It’s been pretty much two years between each book for the last couple books in this series. That being said this was an incredible addition to the Firelight series. Last I read Kibuishi has ten books planned for this series. This is a series that both me and my nine year old son adore; so it’s a fantasy graphic novel series that is great for middle grade and older readers.

Our characters are split into two parties throughout the story. The vast majority of this book is spent with Emily and Trellis as they visit Algos Island and find out some very startling things about the history of the Amulet Keepers. This part of the story was fantastic. We learn a lot about the Amulet Keepers history and also get some backstory on the accident that killed Emily’s father. We also get some excellent backstory on Trellis and how he was raised.

The other part of the story follows Navin as he (along with the rest of his crew) try to evade the Elves, rejoin the rest of the Rebellion and reunite with his mother. This part was pretty brief but it was good to see what Navin was up to.

The illustration is absolutely spectacular with full color and breathtaking backgrounds. I continue to really really love the illustration style in these books.

The story doesn’t make a ton of progress but some interesting twists are revealed and there is one huge “Oh No!” Moment towards the of the story that will keep readers hooked.

Overall a fantastic addition to the Amulet series, if a long time coming. Wonderful characters, some good progress on the story, and beautiful illustration. I really look forward to and enjoy reading the books in this series. I do wish there was a “the story thus far” at the beginning because it is so long between book releases. I also wish that the story moved a bit faster. However, this is an incredibly well done series and I highly recommend to fantasy graphic novel fans of all ages.

Drop everything and read this series!!!

I recently got into this series last year and I love it!!!!!!!! Kudos to the people who have been reading this series since the first one was published in 2008. I can't imagine waiting that long. The series gets better with each volume in my opinion. It takes me about an hour to read one, so worth it. The worst part is the waiting but totally worth it!!!!

Girlie girls will flock to My Stylish Life, in which details of Kiki's day-to-day adventures are revealed in diary style, complete with doodles and black-and-white drawings. The child and her friends form a club to do crafts, bake, and have sleepovers. Readers can continue the adventures from Lotus Lane in the books about the other club members. Add this one if journal/diary-style books are popular. The second book is easier than the first, and has less text. Missy can't wait for picture day. Her outfit will have “belts that glitter, tights with stripes, and shoes that shine.” Full-color cartoons capture her fashion style with ruffles, bling, and even goggles. However, when the big day arrives, Missy's mom has another idea about her picture-day outfit. Pouty, angry, and sad, the child is sent off to school without “ruffles, rainbows, ribbons, or sparkles.” After a few arguments with her classmate Oscar over trading chocolate pudding for carrots at lunch, it's finally time for the picture, and what Missy and Oscar end up wearing will surprise children. Girly girls who have outgrown the Fancy Nancy beginning readers will flock to this illustrated early chapter book about fashion-obsessed Kiki. Writing and drawing in an OTT (over the top) diary her mother gave her, Kiki discusses her BFFs in the LLGC (Lotus Lane Girls Club). Our girl loves an acronym; her sweater-wearing dog, Maxi; selecting outfits for Funky Fashion Friday; and stating facts (FACT: “I am 100% inspired by Mom’s kimonos!”). Throughout, there are hip line illustrations that reinforce the text, like a map of Kiki’s neighborhood, with each of her friends’ houses labeled, as well as IM messages and doodles. The plot moves quickly and includes your basics: friendship drama, a missing dog, pajama parties. This offers more of a reading challenge than early readers (particularly given the hand-lettered type on ruled notebook paper), and it is a nice stepping stone to more advanced chapter books. Looks like each of the LLGC girls will get their moment in the sun; next up is Coco: My Delicious Life, due out this summer. Grades K-2. --Ann Kelley

A cute book that has its own place.

As a mom of three strong, self motivated, A+ readers and one reluctant reader, it varies what makes a "good" book. I purchased Lotus Lane #1: Kiki for my third grade reluctant reader. She has had some fairly disturbing books, such as "Dragon Awakes," forced upon her in school, and she is turned off by books with trauma in them. Kiki is lighter, but it still has it's educational merits. Also thankfully Kiki is not sassy! The format is written as a diary, which got my daughter interested in writing in her own diary. Lines are used to simulate the journal, but the unintended benefit is that the lines help my daughter with eye tracking. She doesn't need a straight edge when reading this book. Kiki's friends are organized, and they even have a chart of their clubs/activities, where they meet, and what each activity club is about. I was happy my daughter had extra practice with her chart reading skills. Regarding the texting: My daughter's friends are in 3rd and 4th grade. Many of them use texting lingo in their notes to each other. My daughter felt out of the loop and wanted to learn. The texting used in the book is explained in plain English with proper spelling. This provided a motivation for my daughter to read the book, as well as a chance for us to discuss proper spelling when writing for school vs texting. I do not recommend this book for an in-depth study in children's literature. However I do recommend this book for reluctant readers interested in books about fashion and friendship and for readers that need something "fun" and "safe" to read before bedtime to keep their thoughts positive.

Love for Lotus Lane!

I like this new series. Kiki is just the right mix of fluff and brains. She is a girl who likes to have sleepovers and eats cupcakes with fun flavors. She is a girl who sets goals and seeks to meet them. She is confronted with a situation (a new girl on her street who isn't nice) and although she isn't happy, she doesn't resort to name calling or plotting the ruin of the girl. She just seeks the friendship of her two best friends and continues on about her life and her goal of designing fashion. And, as luck would have it, she learns that the new girl isn't really that mean by the end of the book. Kiki and the new girl don't end up BFF's but they also don't end up enemies.

I think this book would be good for low level reading older grade girls such as 3-5 as well as the intended audience. I'm not sure a typical first grader could read this book on their own. The book is styled like a notebook/diary - the pages all have notebook lines on them. It is also sprinkled with texting talk like OTT (over the top) and BFF (best friends forever) as well as "fact" boxes. And there are also screen shots of the girls texting one another complete with texting lingo and emoticons. Non-texting girls may be a bit confused trying to read it, but then again, maybe there aren't that many nontexting children around anymore?! This book is a little fluffy, Kiki loves fashion, has sleepovers and make cupcakes with her BFF's but it's also got positive themes for girls. Kiki's mom is a professional stylist (showing a career in fashion), her friend Lulu is "always coming up with money-making ideas" and the girls' favorite movie is about a girl detective (who leaves a trail of glitter as she solves magical mysteries). It also has a bit of culture in it, Lulu is half French, Coco is Italian and the new girl is from Japan. Kiki learns about zen gardens and kimonos as she learns more about the new girl.

A teacher could use a bit of this book for a lesson in alliteration. The girls all live on Lotus Lane in Amber Acres. The main character is Kiki Keenan and her friends are Coco Corvino and Lulu Lyons. The new girl is Mika Maeda.

The illustrations in the book are similar to the Wimpy Kid series (black and white, stick figures with round heads) and distributed throughout the book in a similar way to Wimpy Kid, but these illustrations contain more detailed drawings than the Wimpy Kid series. Overall, this is a fun new series!

Not what I want my daughter reading

Not easy to read, subject matter is so superficial that I felt myself and my daughter getting dumber as we read it. Too much "texting" in a book for little girls. We couldn't finish it...my 8 year old hated it.
