You're better off getting the small artbooks that came with the ...

You're better off getting the small artbooks that came with the deluxe editions of the games. Those have more concept art than this book does. I wouldve liked more character concepts in the book. It only gives a few,and most of the time its the finished product, not much concept. There are tons of environment art in the book if you're into that.

Nice companion to the 3 Batman Arkham games

This hardcover book comes in at 304 pages. It's big and heavy.

The book covers all the three Arkham games namely Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight.

When I first played Arkham Asylum, I was taken in by the details of the design of the environment and the overall mood. It felt really immersive.

Now we have an artbook that goes behind the scenes to show you what it took to create the games. There are over hundreds of artworks, the concept art that comes in form of sketches, character designs, digital paintings, environment layouts and 3D stills from the game. The artworks are reproduced big and look great. There are things like 3D renders of Arkham Asylum, paintings of streets in Arkham City, props and many more.

I like the art direction for the game. It visually departs from the usual comic style art associated with DC comics. Somehow, the game just makes the world feels more real, just like how the games also let you experience what it's like to be running around in the Arkham universe, or as they call it the Arkhamverse in the book.

There's quite a good amount of commentary and interviews to go with the art. There are creators of the game talking about the design of the game, the characters and the production. There's also a one page writeup on the programming aspect of the game. Overall, it's an insightful read and helps you understand more about the world.

There are some downsides. Arkham City's coverage only has 55 pages while the other two games were given over hundreds of pages each. Not all the enemy characters are included. Would have been good even more enemies, even the miscellaneous ones could be shown. Art from Arkham Knight felt restricted even though there are over hundred pages of content because the book's holding back on the spoilers, the bad guys. They only used game stills (three) for Mr Arkham Knight himself and one piece of concept art. And finally some might prefer less game stills and more art. Anyway it's a small proportion of game stills compared to art, just that some of those stills are blown to double pages.

It's a good book that should appeal to the fans despite the downsides.

Flawed Classic

This is one of the most important efforts to analyze Miil's harm principle in order to articulate a politically liberal conception of criminal law. It's great flaw is that, in order to stretch the harm principle far enough to include everything Feinberg thinks ought to be criminalized and exclude everything he thinks ought not to be criminalized, Feinberg fashions a principle which has little connection with what Mill said and what others who speak of the harm principle mean. What Feinberg really shows, without admitting it or even seeing it, is that Mill's harm principle is unworkable. Nonetheless, this book is a classic.

A genuinely readable introdution for the applied scientist

This is an excellent introduction to the calculus of variations and Pontryagin's Maximum Principle. It is written exceptionally clearly and gives the reader access to the calculus without becoming bogged down in lengthy diffcult proofs (which are left to the end).
I recommend this book to any student or scientist who is not a pure mathematician but wishes to understand and apply analytic tools of optimization.

Companies and other organizations depend more than ever on the availability of their Information Technology, and most mission critical business processes are IT-based processes. Business continuity is the ability to do business under any circumstances and is an essential requirement modern companies are facing. High availability and disaster recovery are contributions of the IT to fulfill this requirement. And companies will be confronted with such demands to an even greater extent in the future, since their credit ratings will be lower without such precautions.

Both, high availability and disaster recovery,  are realized by redundant systems. Redundancy can and should be implemented on different abstraction levels: from the hardware, the operating system and middleware components up to the backup computing center in case of a disaster. This book presents requirements, concepts, and realizations of redundant systems on all abstraction levels, and all given examples refer to UNIX and Linux systems.

Conceptually very good, Methodology too

This is my first book about this matter. Although I have some experience implementing solution with HA/DR requirements, this book was very clarifier. Topics are conceptually clear and also this proposes a good methodology to face HA/DR requirements.

You will get some technical details about components that allow implement HA/DR, however it is not in deep. Don't think you will get a comercial product review. This is not the target.

It is a very good book.

Great Book!

My orginal DR guide was lost in a basement flood, I was looking for a replacement for my desk libary at work. There was some math (statistics)on availablity / reliablity that was a little hard to follow - my college math is quite rusty, but it was nicly summerized in a graph format, so I could follow it. The network and data center sections are very well done.

About the Author
Bosun Xie received a Bachelor degree in physics in 1982 and a Master of Science degree in acoustics from South China University of Technology in 1987. In 1998, he received a Doctor of Science degree in acoustics from Tongji University. Since 1982, he has been working at the South China University of Technology and is currently the Director and a professor at the Acoustic Laboratory at the School of Science. Xie is also a member of The State Key Lab of Subtropical Building Science. His research interests include binaural hearing, spatial sound, acoustic signal processing, and room acoustics. He has published over 150 scientific papers and owns 5 patents in these fields. Professor Xie is a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), a vice-chairman of the China Audio Engineering Society, and a committee member of the Acoustical Society of China.

Mary Sue McAslan is a doctor of pharmacy specializing in medication safety and healthcare quality improvement. Dr. McAslan led her first quality circle in 1981 and has since gone on to lead quality improvement initiatives at the Cleveland Clinic Healthcare System, Kaiser Permanente, the Veteran s Healthcare Administration, and Omnicare, Inc. In her current role as a lean six-sigma black belt, she provides leadership for root cause analysis teams, rapid process improvement teams, 5S initiatives and other Lean process improvement strategies. Dr. McAslan has led efforts to improve patient outcomes, focusing on patient-centered medical homes, telemedicine clinics, and improved discharge planning. She has hands-on experience with one of the most comprehensive health information systems, including computerized physician order entry, e-prescribing, patient portals, clinical decision support tools, and medication reconciliation. Dr. McAslan is also the author of Read the Prescription Label and Other Tips To Prevent Deadly and Costly Medication Errors and The Personal Health System.

A MUST for any healthcare worker!!

Such an easy read with excellent take home points and examples. While reading the book my mind was over-whelmed with new ideas to improve the hospital I work at and patient care. Great "Lean" thinking. I highly recommend this book.
